A buttock lift is a cosmetic surgery to improve the appearance of the buttocks. It may be done as part of a tummy tuck. Or it may be done as part of a lower body lift to contour the buttocks, groin, thighs and abdomen. During a buttock lift, excess skin and fat are removed from the buttocks.

The remaining skin is then repositioned to create a more toned look. A buttock lift alone won’t add volume to the buttocks. But sometimes a buttock lift is combined with an augmentation. An augmentation alters the shape or size of the buttocks with implants or fat taken from other parts of the body.

1. Consultation: The first step is to schedule a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in buttock lift procedures. During this consultation, the surgeon will evaluate your medical history, assess your aesthetic goals, and discuss the various options available to you.
2. Pre-operative assessment: Once you and your surgeon have decided that a buttock lift is the right option for you, you will undergo a thorough pre-operative assessment. This may include blood tests, imaging studies, and a physical examination to ensure that you are healthy enough to undergo surgery.
3. Surgery: The buttock lift surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia and can take several hours to complete. There are different techniques used in buttock lift surgery, including:
   • Traditional buttock lift: This involves making incisions along the top of the buttocks, removing excess skin and fat, and lifting the remaining tissue to create a more youthful and lifted appearance.
   • Brazilian butt lift (BBL): This procedure involves using liposuction to remove excess fat from other areas of the body (such as the abdomen, hips, or thighs) and injecting it into the buttocks to add volume and enhance their shape.
   • Lower body lift: This is a more extensive procedure that involves lifting and contouring the buttocks, thighs, and lower abdomen in one surgery.
4. Recovery: After surgery, you will be given specific post-operative instructions to follow, including how to care for your incisions, manage discomfort, and when to follow up with your surgeon. You will likely experience some bruising, swelling, and discomfort in the days and weeks following surgery, but these symptoms will gradually improve with time.
5. Results: It may take several weeks to months for the final results of your buttock lift to become apparent as swelling subsides and the tissues settle into their new position. However, most patients are pleased with the improved shape and contour of their buttocks following surgery.
